Eating, Badly.

So today, me and one of my housemates got into an ‘almost’ heated discussion about my eating habits and my opinion on them.

To cut a long story short as my housemate cooked his appetising looking dinner of burgers, spinach and chips, I informed him I hadn’t had dinner yet and hadn’t had it last night either. This then led to him telling me it’s not good because it’ll lead to anorexia.

Now, having had an eating disorder in the past, not only do I take some offence to this, but I also feel like a lot of people are incredibly misinformed about the subject. When I skip a meal, it’s not because I’m thinking about not eating, it’s just because I’m not hungry. Granted, it isn’t something that one should let become a regular occurrence, but at the same time, I don’t think people should be accused of being Ana purely because they skip a meal.

What is the point in eating a dinner/lunch/breakfast when you aren’t hungry and you’re going to end up leaving most of it because of that. It’s a waste of food and now, even more so because I’m a student, it makes me realise how much of a bad thing wasting food is. Not to abuse the overly used cliche any more than it already has been, but there are people out there that don’t see one meal within a day, so why take advantage of that fact that you can eat just for the sake of eating.

Obviously eating disorders are not something that should be taken lightly or be made a joke of but really, skipping one meal out of three in a day isn’t going to hurt that much as long as you’re in the right frame of mind about yourself and not doing it for the wrong reasons.
