Love.

It's a word that's overused, I'm one of the worst for it, but it's the most terrifying word to say to someone at the same time.

These days you can turn to your friend a tell them that you love a certain celebrity or a movie or even a type of food. But saying 'I love you' to someone for the first time is one of the scariest things a person can ever do.

I know, it sounds ridiculous, but think about it. You're bearing your soul to another person, sometimes not knowing whether they feel the same way about you. Not knowing how the other person is going to react to those three words. They can be the be all or end all of a friendship. They can turn a blossoming romance into a relationship. They can strengthen an already bulletproof relationship but they can also break it.

Loving someone is more than just the want to say it though or the need to hear it back. It's a feeling in the pit of your stomach every time that person smiles or laughs or even just looks at you. Loving someone is more than being attracted to them and 'loving' the way that they look. It's about knowing them more intimately as a person than anyone can and loving them for the person they are deep down inside, when they're at their best and at their worst. It's loving them despite their flaws and that little bit about them that you don't like, because lets face it, love isn't really blind, you still see peoples faults, you just have the capability of seeing past them.

There isn't a time frame for love either. You can love someone from the first moment you see them or love can take it's time to grow and you can not feel it for months. But that doesn't make it any less real, any less passionate or any less meaningful when you say it.

The one thing that we have to remember though is that despite all of this, love is fragile. When a person utters those three syllables to you, they're placing their heart in your possession, and it's yours to take care of. So if someone says it to you, don't take them for granted and don't fuck it up, it's the most precious thing anyone could give you and you're lucky to get it once in a life time so hold on to it and don't let go.
